Resumen: |
This article analyzes the textual content of the Cuadro de historia civil, natural y geográfica del reino del Perú año de 1799. Previously, it contextualizes the path of its author, José Ignacio de Lecuanda, in the context of the Enlightenment thought fostered in the Viceroyalty of Peru in the second half of the eighteenth century. As a working hypothesis I argue that, in addition to make a geographical and historical enumeration of facts, the writing of Lecuanda leaned toward a utilitarian view of the economic potential of an area in economic crisis. The text of Lecuanda was the endpoint of an Enlightened and scientific thinking that was fed by the previous contributions of Bishop Baltasar Jaime Martínez Compañón, the Mercurio Peruano newspaper, and the scientific and political expedition of Alejandro Malaspina. |
