Resumen: |
The first and only Dominican female monastery in the Nuevo Reino de Granada was founded in Santafé, in 1645. A total of 218 nuns professed there between its inception and 1800. They were joined by other women coming from several social sectors, who were in charge of different tasks and fulfilling separate roles. This paper analyzes the configuration and social organization of the convent during the eighteenth century, using unpublished sources read from a historical perspective. The article will contribute to the characterization of the women who inhabited it, to the understanding of the system of practices and customs that shaped the community life within the convent and to the comprehension of female neogranadine spirituality. |
