Resumen: | The Journal Caminhando debuts with a new editorial format: each magazine will have a Dossier. In 2010 Christianity celebrated the centenary of Edinburgh. The World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh in 1910 is regarded by many as missiological watershed in the missionary and ecumenical movement. So the Faculty of Theology of the Methodist Church (FATEO) decided to organize a Wesleyan Week discussing the issue of mission. For an event of this magnitude FATEO invited the Rev. Dr. Wesley Ariarajah, Methodist pastor and teacher of Sri Lanka with extensive experience in pastoral ministry in local churches and professor of History of Religions and the New Testament at the Theological College of Lanka, maintained by the Protestant Churches in Sri Lanka. In 1981 he was invited to join the World Council of Churches, where he presided for over ten years the Council of Interreligious Dialogue. From 1992 he served as Deputy General Secretary of the WCC.The following texts are not the speeches of the Rev. Dr. Wesley Ariarajah, for they will be published separately. Nevertheless, the journal dialogs with the celebrations of the centenary of Edinburgh, parting form the intriguing theme: "Mission in the 21st century in Brazil". After all, how is it that mission takes place among us in personal, church, and community activities? Within the Dossier, as common to the journal, the textos are organized as follows: Bible, Theology / History and Pastoral Care. Other items that do not fit within the Dossier, but, do articulate mission, can be found in the section Declarations and Documents and Book Reviews. The authors of the Dossier have important considerations in building a contemporary missiological concept considering Brazilian reality. Anderson de Oliveira, in the Bible-Section, presents a significant exegeses of Matthew 26.6-13. What does it mean when Jesus is quoted with the words: "For the poor always ye have with you, but me ye have not always." Is this declaration challenging the gospels economics, which always have encouraged charity among the members of the community? Oliveira examines the text to find a solution to this apparent contradiction. If you want to deepen your reflection on the issue of the social responsibility of the Church and on social involvement with the impoverished as topics related to mission, you cannot miss this article. Roberto Zwetsch, Lutheran missiologist, excites us with his text "Mission in the 21st Century: Mission as com-passion." In this article he reaffirms his main theses concerning mission, namely: a sense of com-passion as the meaning of Christian mission in the pluralistic world of the early 21st century. Inequalities and injustices that strike mainly on the poorest and most vulnerable should be overcome from the biblical concept of compassion. The Methodist pastor Noberto Garin, in his article, seeks to rescue the missionary witness of Methodist bishop Isac Aço whose ministry was marked by strong emphasis on promoting justice and dignity. Garin says that the missionary work of Aço had its central focus on impoverished people. This concern led him to fight for a church dedicated to solidarity with the impoverished and socially excluded. The article tries to construct a biography of this pastor, educator, and Bishop, ranging from his birth in Angola, Africa, in 1935 until his death in a tragic automobile accident in 1991. Still in the Section of Theology / History, Moses Coppe, analyzes the importance of the student volunteer movement in the organization of the Edinburgh Missionary Conference of 1910. According to Coppe, there is evidence that what we conceive today as the ecumenical movement is coming up with actions and activities of student missionaries, followers of John Raleigh Mott, one of the most important leaders of the ecumenical movement in its infancy. Finally, in the same section, Renders will reflect on "Enemies oft he world" and "` friends' of mankind ": reconciliation, enmity, and friendship as elements for a public Wesleyan theology. This article builds public theology based on the concept of friendship. For that it explores the understanding of reconciliation and the concept of "friendship" Wesleyan theology discussing English, American, and Brazilian key texts. Finishing the Dossier, within the Section on Pastoral Theology, Paulo Nogueira, a Methodist pastor of the Cathedral of Piracicaba, develops reflections on the phenomenon of population aging. Nogueira analyzes the changes in society and the fact that the Brazilian population has a greater life expectancy than at other times, the pastoral challenges saying, "we cannot shirk our responsibility as a church missionary and pastoral work among the elderly. If we want be able to answer questions on what to do and how to do it we need to devote time and energy to think about it."So the central issue of this Dossier is dedicated to all people who seek reflections that contribute to the construction of a sustainable theological knowledge so we may be able to carry out God's mission today.Nicanor LopezEditor of the Dossier |
