Global warming caused by the use of fossil fuels pushes people to look for alternative solutions that would contain the consequences caused to the environment. Biodiesel is fuel derived from vegetable oils that could be used as alternative fuels. Crescentia cujete L. is the object of this study because of its important oil content which can be evaluated as biodiesel. The transesterification reactions by acid and basic catalysis applied to Crescentia cujete L. oil allow the conversion to biodiesel and by monitoring both reactions by CCD, the time in which these reactions are completed can be measured. The methodology applied was extraction by soxhlet of the oil content that was subsequently purified with water. Reflux equipment was used for transesterification by acid and basic catalysis. The characterization of biodiesel was carried out by means of CG-EM that revealed the amount of compounds that were obtained at the end of the reaction. It was determined that the basic catalyst was the one that gave the shortest reaction time 60min and more abundant compounds such as palmitic acid methyl ester (C16: 0) with 17.1% and oleic acid methyl ester (C18: 1) with a 73.48% abundance. The results of the physicochemical analysis reported an acid number of 0.4581mgNAOH/ g, an ash content of 0.00820%. A relative density of 0.9058mg / ml and a volatile material content of 0.0511%. |
