Cirrhosis is a syndrome that appears as the final stageof all chronic progressive liver diseases. Two very well differentiated phases have been established in their natural course of disease, a phase that is asymptomatic which is compensated cirrhosis, and decompensated. In the decompensated phase, it presents clinically with ascites, hematemesis or melena due to rupture of esophageal varices, portal gastropathy, encephalopathy, jaundice. The objective of this research project is to determine the incidence of liver cirrhosis in female patients treated at the León Becerra de Milagro Hospital from 2016 to 2017. A retrospective, observational and descriptive study was established from January to December 2016. it was demonstrated that the frequency of age with the most registered cases were adult patients older than 67 years, representing 38.9%. Among the main causes of cirrhosis, it was recorded that of the 90 patients registered, 35 of these were cataloged as having a cryptogenic origin (38.9%), followed by patients with hepatoalcoholic cirrhosis with 30 cases (33.3%). In our observational study we found that 46 cases of cirrhosis were staged in Child Pugh B, representing 51.1% of the total. 35 patients presented with upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to the presence of esophageal varices, representing 38.9% of the total of patients, XVIII continuing with 19 patients with severe ascites, this refractory to diuretic treatment, represented 21.1% of the total.
