The article studies what is meant by the expression «partial identification» with the Church, at the same time as it analyses the subject theologically and evaluates its pastoral consequences. Sociologists understand «identification» as the phenomenon by which some men follow the example of others or approve the rules of some society: Partial identification with a particular society implies that one distances oneself somewhat from it and diminsishes one's participation in it. In the past partial identification with the Church was not altogheter unknown but at the present moment the number of those who are partially identified has grown much and is much more in evidence. Partial identification affects faith, morality, worship and discipline in the Church, but above all life-style. When Christians are asked what reasons are there for their partial identification, the answers can be quite varied, whereas, in reality, their attitude springs from their feelings or the influence of the mass-media. Some simply attack the external formulation of the doctrine and call for its reform. More commonly, however, the partial identification is related more to the very matter of the doctrine and can come to the point of rejecting the christian faith and even religion itself. The most profound causes of partial identification are secularization, desire for freedom and utility, hate of authoritarianism, rejection of metaphysics, lust, avarice, weak faith and morals, desacrilization, separation between faith and life, trust of those who attack religion and insult it in speech or writing. The Church, however, is not opposed to legitimate pluralism, which, rather, it praises as longs as it does not touch on truths which should be considered to be de fide. At all events, those who are partially identified with the Church remain members of it juridically as long as they do not break the triple bond, as held by Bellarmine, in the external forum. This is not enough, however; in some way it is necessary that they continue being members it heart as in law, both in the internal as much as in the external forum. To discover an answer of this problem, one must remember that the names which sociologists use to describe the Church are not totally adequate because the Church is a reality that is bolt divine and human at the same time. It is a society that is sui generis, that is, a complex reality and a mystery, as Lumen Gentium says, and as such should be loved and accepted. Since the Church is a mystery, a salvific reality, the identification of one of the faithful with the Church by divine grace is prior to his subjective identilication with it. It is therefore beter to say that it is we who are linked to the Church through faith, hope and charity. Faith and love cannot be had with restrictions and hope admits of no conditioning. One should therefore love and praise the Church as one sees it in the concrete and not as one would wish it to be, not even according to some essential idea of it. This does not means that everyting that the ministers of the Church do should be approved, since they can sin and make mistakes. Those who have care of souls should put their best efforts into preaching the whole doctrine and into teaching the faithful that the Church itself is a mystery. At the same time they can unite in small and particularized communities where they can find the Church, love it and live in it in an apostolic manner. 1. Concepto de identificación. 2.
