Resumen: |
This article is the result of an archaeological study undertaken as part of the project to restore the roof of the Cathedral of Bogotá. Given the special nature of this research, it examines the relationship between the different disciplines involved in the project -architecture, archaeology, history and palaeography -as well as its contribution to cultural heritage management. The history of the cathedral is intermingled with various events which took place in Bogotá in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: earthquakes, social and political movements. Analysis of the archaeological remains shows how they relate to the behaviour patterns of the community during these times. From the material collected, constructional as well as cultural, various typologies and sequences of construction and reconstruction of the roof have been identified, providing information pertinent to its restoration. The nature of the remains and their context help to substantiate certain cultural models proposed by earlier archaeological research of a historical nature. |
