The railway complex was the main responsible for the creation of the General Antonio Elizalde canton popularly known as "Bucay", but with the passing of the years and the new means of transportation, the complex was neglected. In 2008, in an attempt to recover the railway history, the government carried out the rehabilitation of the railway station. The rehabilitation, focused on promoting tourism in the canton, consisted of three stages, of which only one was carried out. The first stage consisted of the construction of the new station, a cafe-restaurant and an area for local commerce, due to economic problems the construction of all the stages of the project was not completed. Through a work of observation and investigation of the history and culture of the canton; and field survey, a diagnosis was developed which proposes to regenerate the railway complex by providing it with public spaces and, in addition, the restoration of the existing buildings on the site, recovering and respecting the buildings recognized as historical heritage, adapting them to new functions without affecting their morphology original.
