The problem of marine pollution in Ecuador is a very important issue, so in this work it was verified the content of 10 metals Mn, Fe, Zn, As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Ni, Cr and Cu in seaweed used as bioindicators to evaluate the water quality of the Glorieta-Ballenita area. Prior to the determination of metals in the samples, these were subjected to a pretreatment process which consisted in a mechanical cleaning, sieving, chemical digestion and a dilution to a known volume with HNO3 0.1 N. The metals were analyzed in 3 species of algae Sargassum ecuadoreanum, Codium santamariae, Acanthophora spicifera and seawater by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. The metals concentrations that were found in the biomass were variable and specific for each specie but the Fe with 0.374 mg/Kg in Sargassum ecuadoreanum, 0.809 mg/Kg in Codium santamariae and 0.809 mg/Kg in Acanthophora spicifera was the metal that was obtained in a higher concentration. On the other hand, the content of metals in seawater specifically Cd (0.090 mg/L), Cu (0.075 mg/L), Ni (0.541 mg/L) and Fe (0.844 mg/L) exceed the permissible maximums values established by the TULSMA and EPA standards. While metals such as Mn (0.058 mg/L), Pb (0.028 mg/L), Cr (0.038 mg/L), As (0.001 mg/L) and Zn (0.077 mg/L) exceeded the limits of the EPA standards. There was a positive correlation between the Acanthophora Spicifera seaweed and seawater with a p-value
