In the Guayaquil canton, the citadel ¨El Paraíso¨ is located the ¨Bosque Protector Cerro Paraíso¨ with a total area of 577.97 hectares, the hill has been part of the National System of Protected Areas (SNAP) since 1989; SNAP is a state entity in charge of creating alternatives for the use of natural resources and the preservation of environmental goods and services. (SNAP, 2015) The SNAP classifies Cerro Paraíso as a Natural Recreation Area, it mentions that ¨this space has a medium size between 500 and 10,000 ha whose main conservation objective is the natural landscape that may be moderately altered. The main activities are related to tourism, recreation and restoration. ¨ (SNAP, 2015) In this sense, the hill is a space with the necessary potential to become a new axis of tourist development connecting north, south and center of the Buenos Aires city, a brief analysis shows a deficiency of recreational spaces in Guayaquil compared to other cities such as Quito and Cuenca, most of its tourist attractions are located in the center of the city. This agglomeration of spaces prevents diversification, reducing the tourist potential of the city in general. In this sense, the recreational infrastructure deficit is aggravated if it is considered that the existing spaces will not be able to cover future demand. |
