The present case analysis was carried out in order to characterize the unreal expectations that couples have in their marriage relationships, which was developed under the theoretical proposal of Albert Ellis (1956) and his model of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (TREC), in conjunction with the postulate of Aaron Beck, around the cognitive distortions. The study was carried out in the Center for Teaching and Research for Human Development and Good Living (CDID), with a total of 4 cases of heterosexual couples whose age ranged from 36 to 52 years, married. A specific study was carried out under the qualitative approach with phenomenological design and descriptive-explanatory scope, because it was aimed at identifying, describing and analyzing unrealistic expectations and the perception that couples have about their relationship. Three instruments were applied, an initial joint structured interview in pairs, elaborated by Leonidas Castro, PhD, which aimed to identify beliefs about the relationship, the inventory of beliefs about the relationship of Eidelson and Epstein and the triangular scale of love of Sternberg, to know the perception that couples have about love. The results obtained in the analysis of cases revealed that the way in which couples perceive the relationship is dissonant with the irrational expectations that they have of it, generating disturbances in the couple's relationship, in turn it was evident that the learning history, could have contributed to the acquisition of certain irrational beliefs |
