This research addresses the issue of the causes that produce the development of periodontal disease associated with the use of fixed prostheses. Taking as a starting point that, periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory process that leads to the destruction of dental support structures, and caused by changes in the subgingival bacterial microflora. The objective of this research seeks to determine the main causes of periodontal disease associated with the use of fixed prostheses. The study approach is qualitative, through which it has intended to determine the main causes of periodontal disease associated with the use of fixed prostheses through a bibliographic and descriptive study. The deductive and analytical method applied in order to observe the investigations related to the problem of the study. Of the 89 articles reviewed, of 50 articles were excluded, which were not relevant to the objective of the research, leaving 39 articles as a sample. Among the main results obtained, it was determined that the female sex is the most frequent in the development of periodontitis, both those that are relate to gingivitis, and in the development of periodontitis. In the various investigations, it found that the age at which alterations related to periodontal disease most frequently develop in a patient with a fixed prosthesis is an average of 28.5 years and 52.5 years. It is conclude that the identification of the causes of periodontal disease is of great importance to develop a comprehensive treatment of the dental patient from its etiology, differentiating the type of periodontal disease to be treated and thus ensuring an encouraging prognosis |
