In this study, the causes of opportunistic infections were staged, which resulted in: low CD4 and high viral load, 57 patients (59%); multidrug resistance, 11 patients (11%), abandonment of antiretroviral treatment, 29 patients (30%). Conclusions: the infectious diseases that most affected the Abel Gilbert Pontón hospital were tuberculosis, bacterial pneumonia and toxoplasma meningoencephalitis. Many of these patients presented multidrug resistance that was 11% of the study population, and this is due to poor adherence to treatment or abandonment. Universidad de Guayaquil.
