Ecuador preserves a great biological biodiversity of plant species, some of them used for therapeutic purposes and even used in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, but there are other cases that are not identified in the industrial sector, such as the black elderberry (Sambucus nigra L). In view of this, its biological activities are evaluated through scientific evidence and compared with the knowledge and use of the bush at the national level. For this, a descriptive and bibliographic research model is carried out, complemented with the use of surveys and statistical analysis, in which 2003 people participated. The results indicated that only 22.7% of the people surveyed nationwide have knowledge of S. nigra L., benefiting mainly from the attributes that they recognize in flowers, among which they only identify the ability to alleviate respiratory diseases and reinforce the immune system. While according to the scientific review there are other potentialities identified in this species under study in which antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic among others can be mentioned that the population does not identify and therefore is not used either. In view of this, it is considered necessary for Ecuador to allocate resources for research that reinforces the population's knowledge about this species and thus benefits from them not only in the traditional and cultural, but also in the industry, for example the pharmaceutical . |
