Resumen: |
Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church was established in Indianapolis in 1836. As it began to grow it was known as the Indianapolis Station of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bethel's church building at 414 West Vermont Street was built in 1869 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This nearly 300-page ledger book contains the Official Board Meeting Minutes for the church, dated from 1871-1909, from the period that the congregation inhabitited the new church building. Each page is dated and lists the attendees of the meetings, the classes, contributions to the church, and the person presiding over the meeting. The Bethel A.M.E. Church Collection was funded by a 2016 grant from LSTA. The digital partnership was a collaboration between IHS, IUPUI University Library (www.ulib.iupui.edu/digitalscholarship), Indiana State Museum, and Bethel A.M.E. Church. |
