Resumen: |
The term imperium, according to Suerbaum (1961), runs parallel to that of res publica. This author points out how it is in book III when he gives a definition of imperium. At the beginning of this book III, Augustine comments on the infidelity of evils that already before the arrival of Christ happened in spite of the cult of pagan gods. Augustine wants to refer only to the catastrophes that had happened to the Roman Empire. (III, 1, 20-26) According to Suerbaum, it is here that he composes the Empire of the provinces that have joined Rome or that she has subdued. Rome and the imperium, together, form the body of the state, the corpus rei publicae. |
