| Resumen: |
In this article different uses of auctor in Cicero are analyzed only when it means a political leader. Auctor is related in these contexts to dux and princeps. This paper tries to prove that these terms are not synonyms; therefore the differences between them are pointed out. The term auctor has heen transferred to political language by Cicero, but its existence as a political word is closely related to the administration of the republic and the senate; this is why it disappeared on the advent of the Empire.
