Periplectomenus, a character of problematic classification on which the thesis of contaminatio by Miles is based, has traditionally been related to senes lepidi. A comparative study shows that this character does not belong to this group and the features that make him differ bring him close to the parasite-sodalis opitulator. The aristeia provides the clues to interpret him: two dramatic lines converge on him, the one is reality, the other is pretensions, coinciding his features with the ones of the ὀψιμαθής described by Theophrastus in Characters.
